I feel quite fortunate to be able to distinguish one common thread among my various communities of friends. They all contain the ability to have and maintain positive outlooks on life.
Seeing these similarities of humanity gave me the desire to study them as they refer to religious beliefs as well. There have been those individuals throughout history who have allowed theirs ego's to guide them down different paths than of God's choosing, thus creating the many divisions of God's dogma that abounds throughout the universe today. Since all paths, in the end, do indeed lead back to God, it would seem that the similarities found in each division are what hold true, and what continues to bring and hold all humanity together. Those similarities such as: God is love, like begets like, and other universal laws, can not be disputed and are what come through to be true, time after time, in each religious division. My pondering on these thoughts brought to me the desire to study the similarities found within all faiths. After all, no one human being has the copyright on God. That alone belongs to Him.
There have been many occasions when friends, as a show of love, invite me to come to their church with them to share in their service. I decided to start taking them up on their invitations and at the same time, use the opportunity to further my studies. My first visit was to the United Christ Church on the corner of Skinker and Forsyth. I met my friends Mary and Bob there for 11:00 service on a Sunday morning. We met a little early, and they escorted me to a coffee room where friends were engaged in lively conversations. There was certainly a high level of spiritual energy in the air already. To my surprise, I saw another friend, Dorothy, and gave her a big hug. Mary introduced me to Shirley, one of her friends and pointed out our common interests. Feng Shui and Reiki.
My next surprise came when we were waiting for service to start. Mary and I were reviewing the program together. Georgy Rock was the soloist for today's service. She played her guitar and sang at an affair I attended one day in the past. When that party was over, she made me a present of one of her tapes. Georgy is one of those truly unforgettable individuals who walk the earth. Those beautiful characteristics of hers that stand out most with me are her great voice, uplifting attitude, and a smile that doesn't quit. Not one of those "pasted on" smiles mind you, no, it is a genuine, loving and sharing smile that warms the heart, and can be contagious.
As the service opened with a piano solo, the Spirit filled the room as the music was finding its way back to God. Announcements were made for the community, Georgy sang her first solo of the day, and the minister told a "story". While the atmosphere was friendly and light, it was none-the-less spiritual and uplifting. The minister then led us into meditation. We closed our eyes and during that time, and in those moments, there was only him, and God, and me in the present. He led me into the depths of my soul where I found my balance with a calm and peace which came much quicker than when I meditate alone. I was once more "standing in that void", found only in the present, in the moment, when one is open to all possibilities. When the minister brought us out of the meditation, I felt even more refreshed. An offering was gathered from all, and Georgy sang another solo. We then rose to our feet and proclaimed the "Our Father" together.
The service concluded with the song "Let there be peace on earth" being sung by all as we held hands. Have you ever experienced a day such as this when every experience so easily leads you to a Higher One? This one is always a tear-jerker for me and today was no exception. I found myself connecting with humanity and a full day of possibility ahead. I was indeed uplifted, rejuvenated, loved and loving. I had shared what God had intended all to share -- love and ourselves. It all comes together when we mirror God's love, does it not! While my division has been Catholicism, my path is God's. My vision is directing my faith to a new realization. It would seem that while all God's children have used the freedom of choice their Father gifted them with, true guidance will provide us all with the means to carry it out when we all come together back to God's Universal Laws of unconditional love, forgiveness and Oneness with Him.
