A Treasured Weekend

It was the first day of Memorial Day weekend and it was perfect. The heat of the sun was intense but a slight breeze kept it from becoming unbearable. Most of the complex had gone away for the weekend, leaving the pool with just the right number of die-hard tanners. My radio was playing the Oldies, which has been found to be the most acceptable summertime music spanning all ages. We couldn’t ask for a better way to start the weekend. I basked in the rays of the sun and rejuvenated my soul.

The next day proved to be altogether different though. There was talk of a chance of showers earlier in the morning, so I took the opportunity to do my grocery shopping then. This being the second day of the three-day weekend, most residents had already fled to their party spots and the store was abandoned. I enjoy an empty store where you can hurry down the isles, tossing treasures into my basket. This trip had an extra-added enjoyment. On weekends like this, I stock the cart with an over abundance of fresh fruit, cheese, crackers, whip cream, already cooked ribs, potato salad, and poppy seed slaw. I added a few regular items for the rest of the week and one yellow rose for my own enjoyment. My next trip was to St. Louis Bread Company for espresso and treats; biscotti for me, and peach Danish for Gina. The drizzle that had been in progress when I left the house, continued until my packages were in the kitchen and all were put safely away for later. Perfect timing!

The drizzle now changed to mist, so I fixed the rose in a tall green vase and took it and my towels out to the deck to set a pleasant ambiance for breakfast. My enjoyment with being in the midst of nature keeps the blood running freely through my veins as well as rejuvenating me. As I sat, peacefully enjoying my food and the fresh mist air, birds could be heard warbling an array of sound waves in various octaves, all of which synchronized beautifully. It was as if they were each announcing in their own language that the rain had ceased. What treasures one can behold when being in the presence of natures beauty, when one takes the time to sit still! When was the last time you sat down and kept company with Nature? It’s never too late!
